Dixie Jazz Amber Light

Beer #3 from the parents stash...

Dixie Jazz Amber Light from New Orleans, Louisiana. The brewery was almost completely demolished in Hurricane Katrina. During the rebuilding process, Dixie's brands are contract brewed by the Joseph Huber Brewing Company.

I've never been to New Orleans, but friends who have said I needed to try some Dixie beer. Amber light lager has a very nice light orange amber color, which distinguishes it from other American light lagers. Toasty malt smell, which is expected because of the Amber styling. It was a very bland / poor tasting beer. Not really much going on, just a very typical light lager without much flavor. It is very watered down and reminded Cathy and I an awful lot of Natural Light.

Really the most impressive part of the beer is the label. It totally captures that New Orleans feel with the typeface choice, piano keys and jazz singer silhouette.

Samuel Adams Light

Sam Adams Light

In the light American lager catagory, I think this might be the best entry of them all. Light amber color with a slight amount of head. There is a nice hop flavor but not overwhelming like an IPA or APA. There was also a hint of caramel flavor. This was such a refreshing and clean tasting beer. It can easily be drank a few at a time with no issues.

Since summer started I have been trying to find a lighter flavorful beer because I have not been in the mood for any IPA or heavier beers. The last 2 Sam Adams have hit the spot nicely and I would recommend giving the Light beer a try to anyone.

Presidente and Presidente Light

Presidente and Presidente Light Dominican Pilsner

The other beer from the Dominican Republic that was available at our resort. It was not very good at all. Probably one of the worst beers I have ever drank.

A big problem was that this beer was the only one served in the restaurants and bars at the resort (besides Budweiser and I wasn't about to drink an American beer while on vacation in another country).

Anyways, the beer had the green beer skunky smell right from the start. It poured a light yellow and had a grassy/straw taste but was pretty light. Not something that I normally like and didn't expect much going into it. I had drank one Presidente before at a small Cuban restaurant in Miami Florida but that was 4 years ago and didn't really remember much of the taste. I would prob drink one again if we ever went back to the D.R. because it would be free, but would never buy one for myself.
